Training
Katherine McClain studied voice at Louisiana State University and with private coaches in Boston and New York. After taking her Musical Theatre Certificate from Circle in the Square Theatre School and pursuing her stage and singing career in NYC, she returned home to New Orleans to continue teaching, performing, and rebuilding the city. She now lives in the Los Angeles area and works all over the country.
Teaching Method
Ms. McClain begins with the belief that each student must learn basic vocal technique in order to lay a strong and healthy groundwork on which to develop his or her particular vocal talent, then tailors her teaching to each student's needs and interests.
The student will learn physically and pedagogically, through traditional and non-traditional vocal and relaxation techniques. We will work together to create healthy vocal habits and core strength, as well as develop skills in sight-reading, pitch accuracy, harmonizing, ear training, and theory, with the goal of memorization and performance of varied repertoire through recitals and outside auditions. Ms. McClain strives to teach the whole person, not just the pipes.
